THE WINES

Voss Estate's first love is Pinot noir and this wine in particular is now receiving critical acclaim around the world. Voss Pinot regularly rates 90+ from the likes of Wine Spectator and Wine Enthusiast in the USA, makes the "best of" lists and scores 5 stars in blind tastings in American, Australian and New Zealand publications. Winning a Gold Medal at the International Wine Challenge in London for our Pinot Noir 2006 further reinforces our place as serious wine producers. Our Pinot Noir 2008 went Silver at the 2010 New Zealand International Wine Show. And our Pinot Noir 2009 was recently rated 5 stars by Sam Kim, Wine Orbit - scoring an impressive 95 points.

Pinot noir is one of three premium wines from Martinborough produced by Voss and makes up around 80% of their annual production:  Chardonnay, and Sauvignon blanc account for the remaining 20% of their output and are all well rated. Riesling is no longer made, but was also well received.

In the winery no expense is spared in the goal of producing the best quality wines. Modern equipment such as a new grape crusher and wine press have enhanced their ability to produce outstanding wines. Oak barriques from the best barrel makers in France are used in the winery. Annette & Gary regularly attend wine making and viticulture seminars & conferences, wine tasting events, surf the web and subscribe to current wine journals to keep up with all the recent trends in quality production.
