Grapes were hand-picked from a single vineyard (19 year old vines) on the Martinborough Terraces. An elegant nose displaying lime zest, dried herb and chalky mineral characters. The palate is well weighted with lovely fine texture, vibrant acidity and a lengthy finish. A beautifully structured Sauvignon with subtle flavours. At its best: now to 2011. 11.5% Screw cap. (2008)

A very appealing aroma of passion fruit, limes and floral notes. A vibrant and fresh palate with good concentration and a fine texture. It is elegant yet with a stunning length of flavour. The fresh acidity provides firm structure and makes this Sauvignon an excellent food partner. It should be great with reasonably rich seafood dishes. At its best: now to 2009. (2007)

Soft, oily with lime and apple, a weighty sauvignon with a melon richness, more of a European style than what I expect from NZ with a smokiness to the finish. (2004)

Came alive on the palate with zest, cutting acidity and limey, herbaceous and tropical fruit flavours. Good varietal expression. (2004)

This is typically a crisp, minerally, ripely herbaceous Martinborough wine with fresh, vibrant fruit characters, very good flavour depth and appetising acidity.

Voss wines have the intensity of Martinborough, in a style based on careful winemaking. The range includes a sauvignon blanc in European style, an intense wine with the weight, concentration and crisp acid of a dry Bordeaux white, with stone-fruit flavours. (2003)

Wonderful. A very pale, closed, dumbed down nose that will open up at Christmas 2002 and beyond. Grassy and full bodied, there is fantastic intensity here with a wonderfully taut palate, excellent grip and great length. This will be a superb food wine. Divine! (2002)

...a muscular but crisp and refreshing 2002 sauvignon blanc with plenty of capsicum and gooseberries on the nose.

Wine of the Week – 2001 Voss Sauvignon Blanc. A really graceful but intense Sauvignon that is rich in passionfruit character and very reasonably priced. (2001)

The winery’s 2000 spring releases include the 2000 Voss Estate Sauvignon Blanc, a fleshy, softer Sauvignon for those who want some respite from Marlborough-style aggression.

Voss Sauvignon Blanc 2000 is up with the best of the top Sauvignons available. While some may show underlying richer tones, this has a delightful richness on the palate right up front – in fact it’s a uniquely more opulent Sauvignon than many which, while having a degree of varietal gooseberry flavours, it is an intriguingly enjoyable different style which should have wider appeal than overly aggressive herbal styles. Rich as it is, it has the fresh acid balance to afford a clean dry finish.

This tiny Martinborough winery is best known for its Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, but the Sauvignon Blanc is very solid. The 1998 vintage is a full-bodied, crisp wine with sweet-fruit delights and plenty of freshly herbaceous flavour.
